CARE IN ACTION: Resources for Families & Helping Professionals
I am pleased to announce the release of three books in two separate formats. The first set is specifically for families living with a mentally ill family member. The format of these books is interactive – information is interspersed with questions to which the reader can respond in order to make the material specific to his or her own situation. Although the books are written in a format and syntax for families, the information is, in fact, generally applicable to anyone interacting with a seriously mentally ill or aggressive individual, and conforms very closely to Edgework's crisis intervention trainings.
The second version of this series of books is specific to the needs of all social services personnel and it will meet the clinical requirements of mental health professionals, such as case managers, counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists, as well as other helping professionals such as physicians, hospital staff, visiting nurses, social and financial workers, group home staff and school personnel. Although there is considerable overlap, the two versions are not identical. In addition to strategies appropriate to any organization that serves the public, there is much clinically-oriented information, suitable to either private practices or mental health inpatient and outpatient facilities.
